Research support at the University of Szeged (SZTE)

Development of digital library services

About the project

Winning an open public procurement procedure gave our company the opportunity for a new collaboration with the University of Szeged.

Under the RRF-2.1.2 grant programme, the developments involved will run from December 2024 to the end of 2025 and cover several areas. While our partner company, Budapest-based SmartFreq Kft., is providing the library with RFID-based self-service lending terminals and an outdoor book return machine enabling 24/7 returns, Monguz Kft. is responsible for launching an institutional data repository to support the publication of research data generated at the university, as well as building a unified content delivery platform.

Efficient storage, sharing and long-term preservation of scientific data, various online resources, electronic documents and digitised content are key to supporting university research and teaching. The system under development will provide a modern, reliable solution for managing research data. Its aim is to offer researchers an easily accessible, standards-based platform for storing, publishing and sharing data. The component, named “Implementation of the SZTE University Knowledge Base”, will be completed by the end of 2025.

Thanks to the Knowledge Base, the system will also include extra features such as saving and sharing user-added supplementary content linked to individual users. It will become possible to highlight search results and specific passages, add annotations, cite a selected passage in several citation formats and translate selected text. Features that improve the accessibility of digital content will also be implemented, such as rotation, contrast and brightness adjustment, and zoom.

As part of the development, we are creating a personal interface (dashboard) for students and researchers, available after login. Through it, personalised features are planned to become available, such as a thematic literature recommendation system, topic alerts (for newly published books, articles and papers), monitoring of new documents in the library, the option to record and submit acquisition suggestions, and email notifications to readers about the latest developments. Participants at the 2026 Qulto Professional Day could learn about this development, among others. The related presentation can be viewed from 00:49:55 on the FSZEK YouTube channel.
