According to Sayisal Grafik’s request, in this project we realised the development of the new version of Sayisal Kitap e-content portal.

In order to improve user experience on the site, our client’s aim was to refine the look and feel of sayisalkitap.qulto.eu, as well as to add novel features and functionalities to existing ones thereof. Major tasks during development – among others – included for instance the followings: complete re-design, re-arranging of footer, adding new filter options, as well as Audio Books, improving with extra features several parts of the site.

Qulto Digitize is a mass digitisation framework that provides solution for public collections, the general public and individual users as well for collaborative processing, grouping and repository management of text and image content. The main advantage of the framework is that it eliminates the need for both the use of other software and applications, and the cumbersome movement of files to be processed. Besides, it enables multi-user workflows.

Our module allows you to create, register, manage and share digital assets and their associated metadata with broad range of audiences. Furthermore, it also provides secure storage of master files, creation of on-demand converted versions, optical character recognition (OCR), watermarking and digital rights management (DRM) of files.

We support the digitisation of books, journals and analogue copies with workflows that make the collaborative work of consortium members transparent. Our system also provides a tool to manage the division of labour and the sharing of income and costs. Digitize is able to export and import METS-compliant digital objects and their metadata; we support digitisation processes with character recognition software; and detailed digitisation allows users to create independent e-documents from pieces of complete works. We can also record legal information and provide digital protection (DRM) for the works. Our system includes native, master and original files, the latter being generated automatically.

Groups of people working with digital objects – let them be university work groups, teachers, e-learning professionals or researcher – need an online platform where they can work on packages of files together in a way that will require them to move those files as infrequently as possible.

Qulto SimilR is a software for finding text similarities between text documents, which can be hosted locally or as a cloud service.

Its core task is to index theses held by higher education institutions and other scientific content available to us for comparison. The comparison is based on measuring similarities between sections and paragraphs of a document.

We can use the automated comparison of documents to automatically identify suspected cases of plagiarism. The software generates a preliminary report on cases above the tolerance threshold, which can be used in the evaluation and decision-making processes. The document to be detected can be uploaded to a central web interface, which is then also used to view the results. Institutional content is processed locally, avoiding the copyright problems typically encountered by plagiarism detection tools. Our innovative business model also generates revenue for the collaborating stakeholders (institutions) based on the frequency of use of their relevant documents.

It allows multiple institutional and individual users to perform simultaneous analyses on individual, shared and web corpora. In addition, Qulto SimilR offers the possibility of customising the analysis and filtering parameters, taking into account the specificities of the texts in terms of genre, form and subject

By using SimilR, documents in Hungarian, protected by institutional and copyright law, will not be stored on foreign servers or owned by foreign companies.

Recommended for the work of higher education institutions, academics and students, professionals and doctoral students, content producers and content providers.

Main features

The software underwent a minor upgrade in 2022, making its interface more simple, clear and user-friendly.

Qulto ePublisher is a central service where the subscribing rightsholders – institution, publisher, institutional publisher – can upload their regulated publications and notes for online use.

Main features

The centralised design allows for the introduction of electronic inter-library loans based on agreements between institutions and publishers, thus allowing for a more efficient use of digitised or born-digital e-publications produced by universities in Hungary.

The available e-publications can be searched and accessed through the university’s Discovery interface, and electronic textbook and note purchase can be introduced for students by adding webshop and online payment functions.

Qulto e-Publisher has been launched in the framework of a collaboration with Sayisal Grafik, our Turkish partner company. They provide copyrighted e-content collected from Turkish publishers in Turkish language, while our company provides a digital platform for handling and displaying the content. The platform enables libraries and library users to search, access, read and download the electronic copies either with or without DRM. Librarians can download the MARC record of any e-content, receive statistics of any document and/or the whole platform. Readers can benefit from a personal bookshelf available in their own account – they can borrow and save e-books on the shelf, share the link of the book, and get the citation in different formats. Users of the platform can access the e-content by downloading or reading online. Publishers can benefit from serving their content online, and enjoy the advantages of different service models for the protection of content. They may choose to serve the content without any restrictions, or choose from the different model options available in the platform: “download with DRM”, “read only” and “available for loan”. Our platform supports any service model to ensure the content security.

The following libraries use the e-Publisher:

National Library of Turkey
Terakki Foundation Schools
Ankara University Library
Atilim University Library
Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli University Library
Ozyegın University Library

We are working in the VEKOP-2.1.1-15-2016 project with Líra Ltd. as a consortium partner on creating infrastructure supporting the legitimate use, service and digitisation of works under copyright and providing automatised cooperation for stakeholders.

Directive 2012/28/EU for orphan works in terms of digitizability/accessibility considers adequate licensing as a key issue and determines the criteria and source of searching for the rightholders. There is a need for an integrated system for the legal digitization of out of commerce works, which enables identification, commercial accessibility based on the books-in-print database or the identification of the rightholder of copyright.

The aim of the Project is to create sector infrastructure, which supports digital content provision, including the availability of licence information regarding access and usage rights; the introduction of electronic library services; and provides access to quality metadata for professionals working in the sector.

We are working on the books-in-print database of books published in Hungary, which registers books before publication, books available and the ones not available any more. It is an online surface where all publication having an ISBN number can be found with relevant data, i.e. how to acquire the book. Its main function is to help users who have the right and the appropriate service package to make business decisions and to inform about the availability of publications.

The register does not aim to sell books, its goal is to connect and inform publishers, traders, libraries and readers. It is of primary importance during the system development and the later operation that the physical and logical architecture ensures a safe environment for the data and information present in the BiP database. The web portal meets all the requirements of a state-of-the-art web application, it is responsive, multi-language site, which uses friendly URLs and supports the modification of static contents with a WYSIWYG editor. A context-sensitive help page informs the users, explaining functions with examples and pictures in an understandable way.
